The foundation level one course offers students an excellent introduction to college life and to the world of further education.
It is aimed at those returning to education, students who may require some additional support with their studies or personal life or those who have not yet decided on a vocational pathway.
The course covers vocational areas, skills improvement and core subjects. Learners will study a level one vocational qualification.

Additional costs
Students will receive additional support with their learning and will be offered the support of a learner support mentor. The tutor team are experienced and skilled in delivering teaching and learning to students requiring additional support and motivation to re-engage them in education.
Towards the end of the course students will receive careers support and guidance to help them select a suitable progression route.
The “core” elements will include the:
- A Level 1 Diploma in vocational studies
- Tutorial Program
- Progress Review
- Literacy and Numeracy development through various pathways: GCSE resits, Agored Qualifications, Essential Skills Wales and WEST
- Be Active and wellbeing activities
- An opportunity to gain tailored work experience to support future progressional routes.
The course supports opportunities to progress onto a specific Level 1 Vocational Diploma courses, further training or employment.
The course is continuously assessed and will include assignments and practical work.
This qualification is available to be assessed through the medium of English only.
No formal entry requirements. Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview.
Learners progressing from a course at Coleg Sir Gar will have different entry requirements to include successful completion and engagement on the current programme of study, proven skills development, good attendance levels and will be in receipt of a positive reference.
