This course is a two-year level three programme which aims to provide the learner with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in a variety of subject areas related to the public services. 

It will provide the learner with a realistic view of public services as a rewarding working environment. Programme content includes five mandatory units and optional units which will enable you to develop knowledge and understanding of areas such as crime, law and fitness requirements as well as units which allow opportunities to carry out research into public services careers that are of particular interest to you.

What you will learn

This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the principles of the uniformed services sector and to allow them to explore the various avenues of work within it. They’ll also allow learners to gain transferable skills including confidence, teamwork and resilience which are essential requirements for employment within the public services. The course is a nationally recognised qualification which provides a progression to higher education or employment.

All learners will follow a skills pathway in which they will develop their literacy and numeracy skills for employment. Students who do not yet have the necessary GCSE grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills qualifications depending on prior GCSE grades.

NCFE level three nationals in public services enable learners to develop transferable skills, providing opportunities for progress to higher level qualifications such as degrees or higher national diplomas. careers directly related to the diploma and extended diploma would include police officer, firefighter, paramedic, member of HM forces, HM revenue and customs, community service organisations and emergency service related organisations.

Continuous assessment, monitoring of coursework and assignments count towards the final award.

5 GCSE grades C and above (or equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh and Mathematics/Numeracy. Or a level 2 Diploma in a related subject (with a merit profile).

Suitability for the course will be assessed at interview and throughout the induction period.

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment. 

You will need to provide your own stationery, and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
