During the one year performing and production arts course, you will develop knowledge in a wide range of performance skills, including specialist sessions in acting, singing, dancing and production arts. You will explore and develop your performance skills in an exciting, intensive and supportive environment through a range of projects aimed to mirror industry professional experiences.

What you will learn
This course consists of 10 units over one year. These units will be split into five exciting projects and will explore an introduction into performing and production arts, a children’s performance production, a dance showcase, an opportunity to explore audition material for progression opportunities and also an final exciting end of year project.
During the year on the course you will be part of three company performances, as well as two short projects. There will be a variety of performance and production roles to choose from. You will also have practical skills classes in addition to these projects in acting, singing and dance. In order to complete the theoretical elements of the course you will develop your research and self reflection skills to support your practical developments.
Throughout the course there are extra-curricular opportunities such as performance academies, West End trips and workshops with industry professionals.
This course will provide you with valuable experience and will develop necessary skills that would be a great starting point for anyone wanting to pursue a career in the performing arts. The level 2 qualification will enable you to build up your confidence, your communication and your networking skills. Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress on to any level 3 courses, but more specifically, progressions tend to lead onto our level 3 creative industry courses, such as performing and production arts, music performance and production and creative media.
Successful completion of the level 3 programmes will enable you to access a wide range of higher level education courses across the UK, including specialist performance conservatoires.
Units are assessed internally within five projects - three performance based and two short projects.
As part of the interview process, you will be required to audition for your place on the
course for both performing and production arts. Please see the specification below.
For Performing Arts, you will be required to produce one of the following:-
- A song from a Musical Theatre Show
- A dance performance within a style of your choosing
- A monologue from a published play (No Film or TV)
If you choose to do a song or dance, please bring the track with you. Each element should be no longer than 2 minutes.
An applicant for level 2 will need to have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grades A* - C- including either maths, English or Welsh first language.
English and maths are an integral part of the course. Students who do not yet have the necessary grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills depending on prior GCSE grades.
All students will need to buy a Cwmni Theatr Glo practical uniform at the start of the course.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
