The vet physio leaning over a desk explaining some anatomy to students

Animal care students at Coleg Ceredigion have been given an insight into the work of a veterinary physiotherapist thanks to Aberystwyth-based JT Veterinary Physio and Coaching.

Students on a level three qualification, which is pre-university level, were able to listen to and discuss various real-world case studies and learn how physiotherapy is applied in practice.

The company owner, Jennifer Lawrence, discussed the role of the veterinary physiotherapist in supporting animal health, rehabilitation, and welfare.

She explained the professional body she works under, the importance of appropriate insurance, and the continuing professional development (CPD) requirements she must meet in order to practice safely and effectively.

This session helped learners to understand how veterinary physiotherapy is applied in practice and the impact it can have on animal welfare.

Coleg Ceredigion animal care lecturer Chrissy Asplin organised the visit, she said: “As well as talking students through her career journey, Jen also brought along specialist equipment used in her workplace and gave learners a practical session to explore anatomical structures using an equine skeleton.

“This practical element helped to bring theory to life and allowed learners to actively engage with the subject.

“The session provided learners with valuable industry insight, inspiration, and a realistic understanding of professional expectations within animal care, supporting their ongoing studies and future career aspirations.”

As part of their course, developing strong industry links is vital for animal care learners, giving them the opportunity to engage with professionals working in the field and to gain a clearer understanding of potential career pathways.
