AS/A Level Textile Design

  • Graig Campus
AS - 1 Year / Full A Level - 2 Years

This textile design course is a two year programme, which focuses on developing a broad understanding of textiles. The programme aims for every learner to develop their own unique style and use imaginative approaches to developing skills and individual approaches to their creativity in textile design. Learners are encouraged to explore individual interests and ideas over a range of genres through the development of digital and physical sketchbooks to record their progress. Sketchbooks form an integral part of the course and learners are encouraged to develop their own creative styles for presentation and are used to support the production of completed outcomes and finished products.

Learners will develop skills in drawing and illustration, surface pattern, garment construction and sewing. Studio sessions are available for learners to make use of equipment in their free time. Historical and contextual studies are integrated within each learner’s personal projects to help underpin their practical work and to develop their literacy and subject knowledge. Learners have the opportunity to participate in local and national competitions, visit exhibitions and galleries. Workshops are organised for all learners and both AS and A-level have the opportunity to exhibit their work at an end of year exhibition.
