A former Coleg Ceredigion student returned to college to share his production experience with creative media and technology students before finishing his year of industry work experience and heading to a London University specialising in film.

Ricardo Dias, who took a year out to gain industry experience, returned to share his journey since leaving college last year.

He spoke about his recent experience with Chief, a commercial production company where he worked as a runner in the office and on set working on a Geely electric vehicle advert.

He offered practical advice on securing work experience, the realities of long but rewarding filming days, and the importance of professionalism, enthusiasm and networking.

Ricardo Dias said: “Getting experience as a runner has taught me how important it is to be proactive, adaptable and always willing to learn and every day on set is an opportunity to build skills and make connections.”

Coleg Ceredigion lecturer and Ricardo’s former tutor Sofia Bechraki added: “Ricardo worked hard on the creative media course to prepare for the realities of the media industry.

“He gained the confidence, technical skills and professional mindset needed to progress.

“Ricardo is set to start an undergraduate course at Central Film School in London this September after taking a year out to gain further industry experience and develop his portfolio.

“He is currently filming a short psychological horror film based in Aberystwyth.”
