If you like creating creative content as a use for artistic expression and communication to engage audiences then this course is a step on the ladder to using digital media, film and video and animation.
This level three creative media course is designed to equip you with a range of high-level creative, practical and academic skills using industry-standard software and it can be used to progress to university.
With a practical focus and within a department with fantastic resources, students study and make films (fiction, documentary and music videos), animations, graphics, advertising campaigns, and photography portfolios. This University of the Arts London (UAL) Awarding Body course is underpinned with an understanding of the media industry, close analysis of media content, as well as responding to professional briefs.
We have a dedicated studio for filming and photography, high definition professional cameras, tripods, tracks, microphones, boom poles and lights which, once trained, students can borrow to make films and three dedicated editing suites with Apple Macs (one for every student on the course) and the latest professional software, including the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro and so on) for editing and graphics.
There is a real focus on providing professional expectations and standards, including ambitious final projects (in whatever medium the student chooses) at the end of each year, and realistic work experience through professional client briefs, collaborative project work with local employers and cross curriculum activity.
Student work is of a very high standard and we have had numerous successes in film festivals such as Zoom and Ffresh.

What you will learn

We have High Definition professional cameras, tripods, tracks, microphones, boom poles and lights which students can hire out to make films; and three dedicated editing suites with Apple Macs (one for every student on the course) and the latest professional software, including Maya for 3D work and the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc.) for editing and graphics.
Student work is of a very high standard and we have had numerous successes in film festivals such as Zoom and Ffresh.
Following completion of the course our students usually progress to university courses in media, film, animation and related subjects, but also some go on to humanities courses such as psychology, sociology and international politics.
Our students have been accepted to some of the most prestigious universities in the UK for media studies such as Goldsmith’s, Salford (Media City) and the University of Westminster. Inspired by the practical aspects of the course and guided by the vocational support of our industry based teaching team, our students are also moving directly into the industry, gaining freelance work whilst still at college, setting up their own companies or applying for junior/assisting roles in the industry.
Assessment is project based throughout the two years of study (with no exams), students produce portfolios which include research and development, planning material and final creative outcomes for each unit.
Five GCSEs at grades A*-C, which includes either English language or Welsh (first language) and maths. Or successful completion of a level two vocational qualification in a relevant subject at merit or above plus a successful interview.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
