Carpentry student receives high commendation from the Institute of Carpenters
A Coleg Sir Gâr site carpentry student has been awarded a highly commended in the Institute of Carpenters (IOC) third year student of the year award.
Tom Griffiths, who has been employed by Lloyd & Gravell for the past four years, has now finished his studies and is progressing his carpentry career with the company.
The IOC award recognises dedication, passion and hard work throughout students’ carpentry and joinery studies.
Initially, Tom went to university to study human biology before seeing the world through travelling and on his return, he decided to train as a carpenter after being employed as a labourer at Lloyd & Gravell.
His tutor is thrilled with the outcomes of Tom’s work and is using them as examples of best practice with current students.
Gareth Duncan, Coleg Sir Gâr carpentry tutor said: “Tom has performed exceptionally well and has been awarded the highest distinction profile, with three distinction grades, for his level three site carpentry qualification.
“His site evidence has been outstanding and he applies his academic skills brilliantly.
“Tom was also given a distinction grade in his professional discussion with the City & Guilds end point assessor and his attitude towards both college and work has been truly exceptional.
“I have had the pleasure of taking Tom for the whole three years he’s been at college and it has been a real treat to see him progress as he has.
“I feel he truly deserves the recognition for the exceptional performance that he has achieved.”
Tom also received a range of trade vouchers from the IOC as part of his success.
