The Chris Thomas Sports Scholarship continues to drive the college's development of next generation professional rugby
The Chris Thomas Sports Scholarship, funded and driven by the founder and director of Cadog Homecare, continues to pave the way for aspiring rugby players at Coleg Sir Gâr to transition from grassroots talent to the professional field.
This scholarship has cemented its reputation as a vital launchpad for sporting success and is driven by a local businessman who understands first-hand the dedication needed to succeed in the game.
During his rugby career, former Coleg Sir Gâr student Chris Thomas, represented the college with distinction, notably playing for the Urdd 7s select team that famously won the schoolboy tournament at the Dubai 7s. He also earned honours playing for British Colleges.
Driven by a desire to give back to the college community that shaped his early career, he has been a loyal sponsor of Coleg Sir Gâr for over a decade.
The Chris Thomas Sports Scholarship helps support athletes on their journey to the professional game, providing them with the vital support, resources, and encouragement needed to reach the very top of the sport.
Over the past decade, the scholarship has been a driving force behind an incredible track record of success, playing a key role in supporting players on their journey to becoming professional athletes.
It has provided a vital stepping stone for an impressive lineup of future players, including British and Irish Lion Josh Adams, Welsh international scrum-half Kieran Hardy, and powerhouse prop Gareth Thomas and the pipeline of talent shows no signs of slowing down.
In recent seasons, the scholarship has supported the rise of breakthrough professional players Macs Page and Eddie James, alongside current U20s internationals Dom Kossuth, Osian Williams and Jac Pritchard.
This year, the programme has extended its support to a new cohort of rising stars. Current U18s internationals Jac Cloke, Cole Lacey, Hefin Hughes, Rhys Owen, and Madoc Evans have all benefited from the scholarship, utilising its tailored support systems to balance demanding academic schedules with elite-level sports performance.
Euros Evans, head of sports academies at Coleg Sir Gâr, shared his gratitude for the lasting partnership. “We are incredibly grateful to Chris for his unwavering and continued support over the past decade,” he said. “Having a former student look back and actively invest in the next generation is incredibly special. The Chris Thomas Sports Scholarship is more than just financial backing, it provides our young athletes with the belief and the tools they need to transition into the professional game. Without his loyalty and generosity, many of our players wouldn’t have reached the heights they have today.”
Through the continued generosity of Chris Thomas and Cadog Homecare, Coleg Sir Gâr remains a leading player in nurturing elite talent, ensuring that the next generation of rugby players have the support and foundation they need to become professional athletes.
