Hairdressing students at Coleg Ceredigion have taken part in a college event where they stretched their imaginations competing against each other in a party-themed competition.

The project saw costumes, make-up and hairdressing skills combined within three groups of students, from level one to level three, who competed against each other.

It’s challenging as level one students just preparing to finish their very first year of study, compete against level two and three students who will be industry-ready when they finish college this year.

But at Coleg Ceredigion, it’s also about having fun and enjoying the college journey whilst learning on the way.

Organised by lecturer Jane Clarke Evans, students were given the opportunity to create anything they wanted as long as they stuck to theme of ‘party’, which also brought in bridal party hairdressing with students using models on the day and creating mood boards in the run-up to the competition.

They also had the opportunity to practice during college sessions and at home, using model blocks and models.

Donna Bids-Williams, Coleg Ceredigion hairdressing lecturer said: “We encourage performance enhancement, building self-esteem and having fun within this inter-college competition.

“The students really engaged and had a chance to show and build on their skills.

“We’d like to thank Sharon, from Utopia salon in Narberth for helping with the judging and Kerrie, manager at Capital Hair and Beauty, for judging the competition and for the fantastic gifts that they donated as prizes and goody bags.

“Each student who competed was also given a goody bag of industry products which was a really kind gesture.”
