Students exhibit their artistic journeys at Pibwrlwyd campus
Art and design students at Coleg Sir Gâr are exhibiting their final major projects at an exhibition space at Pibwrlwyd campus.
Students on every level of art course, from level one to three, are given the opportunity of exhibiting their artwork.
Second year students on the level three extended diploma course, which is accredited by University of Arts London, exhibit their work at Job’s Well campus alongside the work of other Carmarthen School of Art students.
This year’s theme was ‘echoes from the past to redesign the future’ for level two, level one were given ‘forgotten spaces’ and level three were given the creativity to choose their own theme.

Philip Raven-Richards, a level two student exhibiting at Pibwrlwyd was initially inspired to study art due to his mum’s painting and sculptures. He has created earthly pattens using acetate, ink and light. He said: “I did a lot of experimenting for this project and looked at islands, explosive and volcanic patterns which inspired my linework.
“I’m hoping to progress to level three in September as I’ve had a fantastic time at college and the tutors are really helpful and teach us all types of techniques and explain them well.”

Nicole Bravery, a level two student responded to the brief using new and old boats as her inspiration. She said: “With older boats, some of which are submerged, you can hear the echoes but the newer seaworthy boats seem to project quite loudly and to me, the future isn’t silent.”
In one of her pieces, which uses marker, charcoal and chalk – a technique Nicole has never used before, places the top of a cruise ship on the bottom of a container ship, combining and placing the old under the new to create an impression of the image she wanted to portray.
Nicole’s artistic talent was initially picked up at school by and art teacher who noticed her potential and gave her random projects to explore.
Rebecca Sellick, art and design lecturer at Coleg Sir Gâr’s Carmarthen School of Art at Pibwrlwyd campus said: “We are all very proud of all our students who have worked so hard all year and on their final major projects.
“They have experimented and taken tutor feedback on board and really let their creative imaginations run wild.
“It’s been lovely to be part of their creative journey and seeing their parents and guardians at our end of year exhibition celebration provides us with a lovely ending to the academic year, in preparation for the next level.
The exhibition ends on June 26, 2025.
