The apprenticeship that helped Euan reveal his true talent

Euan has been thanked by clients’ multiple times for his hard work, professionalism and efficiency, which has been demonstrated through customer satisfaction surveys.” Beverley Bovett, College Training Advisor.
A construction apprentice at Coleg Sir Gâr is excelling within his employment and apprenticeship programme at Morganstone Ltd and has won the Higher Apprentice of the Year Award at the B-WBL awards which recognises the success of work-based learners.
Working as an assistant site manager on projects such as coastal housing and part refurbishment and extension of a city centre development, Euan is showing a strong ability in subcontractor management and is a role model for new starters joining the business.
He has undertaken additional site competence qualifications such as the CITB’s SMSTS and SEATS courses in site management safety and environmental awareness, as well as first aid and fire marshal certificates.
Euan, who was already armed with a level three apprenticeship, is currently studying a level five higher apprenticeship in construction management and sustainability, where he is following the construction management route, which is delivered by Coleg Sir Gâr and University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
He completed a level five higher apprenticeship in July 2024 and has continued his apprenticeship route directly with UWTSD from September 2025, being one of the first cohort to start the degree apprenticeship.
Euan also experienced the loss of a close family member during his apprenticeship, which profoundly affected Euan and his family but despite immense personal loss, he has shown a strong resilience and directed his focus onto his studies, successfully completing his qualification in his father’s memory.
Beverley Bovett is Euan’s training advisor, who manages his progress at work and at college and acts as a mentor throughout his apprenticeship, she said: “Euan discovered a passion for site work, excelling in communication where he contributes to the morale of employees as well as sub-contractors.
“This scheme has allowed him to flourish and demonstrate his excellent management skills, where communication and problem solving have been key. This kind of creativity and strategic thinking has been integral to projects, whereby unique challenges come frequently.
“With the business getting busier, Euan has been able to take the initiative to manage projects with minimal supervision and trusted to take the initiative to deliver work as timely and cost-effective as possible and he is putting his problem-solving skills to good use when site work brings up construction challenges.
“Euan has been thanked by clients’ multiple times for his hard work, professionalism and efficiency, which has been demonstrated through customer satisfaction surveys.
“His sheer perseverance coupled with his dedication to work is Euan’s greatest attribute and he continues to work hard within his role and he doesn’t let anything stop him with his logistical and management skills truly excelling.”
