Students and staff at Carmarthen School of Art are bringing the world of art and design to Llanelli carnival this year with their Bauhaus inspired ‘metal party’ float.

The Bauhaus, a radical concept founded in Germany in 1919, is an art movement that shaped modern art and arts education.

Katie Fitzgerald-Williams at Carmarthen School of Art is leading the project, she said: “We wanted to do something a little different that celebrated all things art and design.

“We actually made this project a live brief so it gave students something to work towards as well as being part of a well-established community, seasonal event.

“Students have been tasked with designing and making the costumes and props to fill a carnival float which means that everything made, had to be transportable, large scale and durable.

“We’d like to thank the transport companies who have donated lorries and drivers for the evening as well as the college catering team who have provided us with copious amounts of foil and tinned material.”
