Capturing Carmarthenshire: A-level students take part in Llanelli Photographic Society competition
Photography students at Coleg Sir Gâr have been working with Llanelli Photographic Society in a competition aimed at welcoming young and contemporary photographers into the society.
The annual competition has a separate category for the A-level photography students but the overall theme was Our Carmarthenshire.
(Below is first, second and third)
Those competing were asked to submit photographs that embody Carmarthenshire in their own style of photography.
Students submitted imagery that ranged from castles to sunsets and agriculture to nature.
Winning first place in the student category was Daniel Jones, Cerian MacRae took second place and in third place came Rowan Fisher.
Aiden West, Amber Bostock, Isabelle White and Libby Emms all received Highly Commended awards.
Cerian was also interviewed by S4C who were there to film the awards evening for their Prynhawn Da programme.
Daniel received a £25 gift voucher as first prize and the best five entries had their images professionally printed and mounted.
Winner Daniel Jones said: “It’s a great opportunity, really easy and exciting to get engaged with it.
“I enjoyed the process of selection, trying to apply my developed understanding to pick the best photo possible to edit and present.
“I have felt more than happy with my win, although it completely shocked me.
“Last year’s entry, I spent much time on curating the photo, but didn’t get placed. This year round was a lot simpler, and I managed to win, which shows me how much I’ve improved, in just a year. It has been a very thrilling experience.”
