Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion welcome approval for new Carmarthen campus
Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion, part of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Group, have welcomed the decision by Carmarthenshire County Council’s Planning Committee to approve the development of a new campus in Carmarthen.
Campws Caerfyrddin will see the development of the college’s Pibwrlwyd site to create a modern, inclusive, bilingual learning environment that supports high-quality teaching, learner wellbeing, and innovation.
The approval marks an important milestone in the college’s long-term strategy to strengthen its provision for learners, employers, and communities across west Wales.
Funded through a partnership between the college and Welsh Government, the development reflects a shared commitment to providing inspiring spaces where learners can thrive, develop in-demand skills, and progress into meaningful careers.
The development will also strengthen the college’s role as an anchor institution within the region, working closely with communities, industry partners, and key stakeholders to support skills development, drive economic growth, and create new opportunities for local people.
Vanessa Cashmore, Acting Principal of Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion, said:
“This investment is about far more than new facilities. It is about transforming opportunities for learners across Carmarthenshire and ensuring that they have access to world-class training, modern learning environments, and the skills needed to build successful futures.
“Campws Caerfyrddin will help us continue shaping lives, supporting communities, and creating a future-focused learning environment that meets the social and economic needs of the region.”
Further updates will be published on the college website, social media channels, and through direct communication with relevant stakeholder groups.
