“You learn so much on this course, from finance to law, there’s never a dull day. The teachers care about their courses and always find a creative way to deliver their lessons, making it fun and helpful, they are a good team.” Level Two Student Riley Morris.
Business students at Coleg Sir Gâr have raised nearly £400 for the charity Mind, with an event that saw Darth Vader and stormtroopers make a special appearance.
Students planned and organised a fundraising event at the college’s Graig campus and invited companies to promote their businesses and sell their products.
As part of their course, they study a module called running a business event, so they brought it to life with an event that benefitted a charity.
The event was run by level three students and supported by level two students who got creative and made a cardboard slot machine for the event with games and prizes to encourage donations.
Business student Leon Marsh, who is studying at level two said: “I really enjoyed organising the event, it was fun and informal and a practical way to learn.
“I have decided to progress to level three as this course has really set me up well to study it.
“The course is amazing and I decided to study business as it covers a wide range of careers such as marketing.”
Cai Williams, who is a level three student said: “We organised a variety of stalls and we offered cakes sold by Gower-based Bloom Bakery and Deli.
“We decided to raise funds for Mind as we all see how important mental health is.
“As well as the theory, I enjoy the activities on this course as they are practical and the more I experience something, the more I learn.
“We’re currently learning recruitment and selection and we’ll be taking part in interviews and interview panels to get both side of the experience.
“We’ll also be presenting a business idea to HSBC bank which again put into practice the skills we’re learning.”
Level two student Riley Morris added: “You learn so much on this course, from finance to law, there’s never a dull day.
“The teachers care about their courses and always find a creative way to deliver their lessons, making it fun and helpful, they are a good team.”
Students raised a total of £380 through online and cash donations with Mind asking them to help out at their 80s themed charity fun run and family day.”
