Double success for Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion at NUS Cymru Awards
Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion’s Students’ Union were invited to the NUS Cymru celebration event in Cardiff where Women’s Officer Alys Mosey received an NUS Cymru President’s Award.
SU President for Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion, Ioan Armstrong also received a recognition award at the event for his role as Student Governor.
Alys, who is also SU Vice President for Job’s Well campus, where the college’s Carmarthen School of Art is based, won the award for her International Women’s Day campaign.
She was nominated by Debbie Williams, a Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion wellbeing officer who works to support the Students’ Union as part of her role.
Alys organised an inclusive International Women’s Day campaign this year, across all seven campuses and collaborated with SU officers to deliver engaging stalls on each campus featuring creative activities such as inspirational displays and interactive challenges.
Alys Mosey, who is studying a foundation diploma in art and design at the college said: “I was genuinely really shocked to actually see my name appear on the screen and hear it called out when we were in Cardiff, I wasn’t expecting it at all.
“But I really couldn’t have done it without the help of this year’s amazing SU. Especially on my campus, I don’t know how I would have gotten it done without Kim (LGBT officer) and Takara (disability officer) and the support of the wellbeing team.
“This campaign really meant a lot to me as I was planning it. I’d planned the event last year but unfortunately with the time I had, it was only possible to host it at Graig campus, so I’m really happy that we were actually able to spread the celebrations across our campuses that was the most important thing for me, that all campuses could enjoy the day.”
Debbie Williams, Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion wellbeing officer added: “We are so proud and delighted that Alys has been recognised for all her hard work as Women’s Officer and especially her campaign during International Women’s Day. Alys is such a conscientious learner who totally deserves the award. Da iawn Alys!
“It was also lovely to see that Student Governors across Wales received recognition awards for their participation at college board meetings. Our Student Union President, Ioan Armstrong will be delighted to be recognised for his role in representing all students on the board.”
