Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion students and apprentices have been recognised as part of a national celebration of Welsh skills in the Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales annual awards presentation.

A host of competitions in various sectors including health, engineering and hospitality take part in February and the presentation evening is where the results are announced. 

Both colleges hosted a watch party where award winners and competitors watched a live stream of the main event that took place at the Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl with Grwp Llandrillo Menai, Coleg Cambria and north-based training providers.

The main event was presented by Welsh TV presenter, Mari Lovgreen with 10 watch parties tuning in from across Wales.

Coleg Sir Gâr took eight gold awards in sectors including manufacturing, renewable energy and health and social care. 

Eleven silver medals were awarded in categories including vehicle technology and popular music. 

Two bronze awards were won for electrical installation and fitness assistant and 17 highly commended awards were also received.

Coleg Ceredigion 

Coleg Ceredigion won three golds in patisserie and confectionary, restaurant service and carpentry, two silvers in beauty and patisserie and two bronze medals in culinary arts and restaurant service with 13 highly commended awards.

ISE in Wales is a Welsh Government funded initiative designed to promote and run skills competitions across various sectors. It supports Welsh students and apprentices in their competition journeys regionally, national and up to WorldSkills UK level. 

The watch parties welcomed competitors, medal winners, their tutors and competition mentors along with guests.

Becky Pask, employability and entrepreneurship coordinator at Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion said: “We are so proud of every learner and apprentice who participated this year, they have blown us away with their dedication while balancing their studies. 

“Everyone who took part, from the learners to the tutors and support staff who facilitated this training, is to thank for this incredible achievement. 

“These competitions are a great way to build the confidence and professional skills needed for future careers, and we are so happy to see our staff and students succeed together.”
