New apprenticeship scheme in carpentry and bricklaying
Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion are pleased to announce the launch of new level two foundation apprenticeships in carpentry and bricklaying, starting from September 2026.
Available at Ammanford and Cardigan campuses, these new apprenticeships provide exciting opportunities for employers and aspiring apprentices to access high quality training in two essential construction trades.
How long are the programmes?
Both programmes have a 24-month duration and combine practical workplace learning with off the job training to develop occupational competence, technical knowledge and industry ready skills.
Who is the accrediting body?
Developed in line with new City & Guilds qualifications for Wales, these apprenticeships reflect the evolving needs of the construction sector and provide strong entry routes into skilled trades.
Apprentices will develop core practical skills, safe working practices and the foundations needed for a successful career in construction.
What are the key changes?
As part of the introduction of these new pathways, the current level three carpentry and bricklaying apprenticeships will be replaced this September by these level two programmes to help more people gain access to training pathways.

Level three pathways are expected to return in 2027, to support future progression opportunities.
