President of Students Union invites Welsh Minister into college to talk about raising FCF funding
The Students Union president at Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion invited the Welsh Minister for further and higher education into college to talk about the importance of raising the Financial Contingency Fund (FCF) allocation.
FCF is a Welsh government backed fund to help full-time students who are experiencing financial hardship to help remove barriers to learning by providing help such as travel costs, childcare, course equipment and food vouchers.
Ioan Armstrong, a Coleg Sir Gâr A-level student was elected by students as this year’s Students Union president and he has invited Welsh Minister Vicky Howells MS, into the college’s Graig campus where he studies.
As part of his manifesto, he’s campaigning for more FCF funding to help more disadvantaged students that are finding financial difficulty in attending college and for those just under the financial threshold.
Recognising the positive impact of the college, such as the transport subsidies it provides, Ioan is looking for a policy change when it comes to FCF funding and is hoping that his meeting with Vicky Howells will begin that conversation.
Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion are committed to supporting Ioan in his Students Union role and supporting all students in giving them a voice but also remains appreciative of the ongoing funding and support received from Welsh Government.
