Sports students return from unforgettable Canadian adventure backed by Vaughan Construction
Over 60 sports students visited Canada on an educational, sporting and cultural tour, sponsored by Vaughan Construction.
Travelling to Montreal Trudeau International Airport, the group travelled in June for a 10-day tour where they experience white water rafting, a visit to the famous CN Tower landmark, an amphibious tour, a major league baseball game, water and amusement parks, dinner at Brasa Brazilian Steakhouse, Niagara Falls in an adventure jet boat tour and much more.
This tour also provided students with an opportunity of some international player experience with various sports fixtures which resulted in some notable wins.
The boys team won 92-0 against Barrhaven and the girls team won 64-0 against Mississauga Blues, with the boys wining 108-0 against Mississauga Blues boys.
The netball team won 48-15 against Netball Ontario with only one loss of 29-19 to the college girls’ rugby team against Barrhaven.
Rob Kirk, tour organiser and sports science lecturer said: “Canada delivered from our warm welcome and white-water rafting in Ottawa, to our theme park thrills and CN Tower skyline views in Toronto and the breathtaking falls in Niagara, the tour had it all.
“The attractions aside, I am most proud of our learners who conducted themselves professionally throughout, while displaying the resilience needed to cope with an action-packed, competitive, 10-day tour, they all proved to be top tourists and are now part of Coleg Sir Gâr history.
“I’d like to thank Adam and everyone from Vaughan Construction who helped make this tour a reality for many of our students and an experience they will carry with them forever.”
Explaining his reasons for sponsoring the tour, Adam Jones from Vaughan Construction said: “When I was young and playing rugby, if it wasn’t for sponsors, you wouldn’t have a kit. We are a local company, employing local people and I feel it’s good to give something back and it’s good to provide this at grass roots level and to give the next generation a step up.
