Beauty therapy is a career that is very diverse as it can lead to roles in salons, spas, cruise ships and hotels.

If you are looking to start a career within the beauty industry, this is an exciting course, which will enable you to work with the public in our state-of-the-art salon facility, Academi Steil, which is a fully functional commercial salon. You will learn and develop practical skills in manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing, health and safety, eye treatments (tinting and shaping), individual eyelashes, make-up and reception.

You will also study anatomy and physiology to gain underpinning knowledge of the above units.

What you will learn

Our hair and beauty salons are exceptional and allow you to train and work in a commercial salon environment, working on members of the public on a weekly basis. You will also have the opportunity to attend: trade shows, seminars, workshops as well as organised sector related trips and taking part in competitions. 

Once you have completed the course, you can progress onto level three beauty. This course will also prepare you for industry and give you the skills required to work in salons, spas, department stores, hotels and cruise ships. Many students from Coleg Ceredigion have gone on to set up their own businesses or work for spas in their local area and further afield. This is an excellent course which provides you with the opportunity to hone your customer service skills, to work with the general public and to build up a good reputation and client base. 

A beauty therapist can work in many industries such as hotels and spas carrying out various treatments such as facials, nail treatments and offering specialist advice in a professional environment.

You will be assessed practically in the salon and you will need to take online exams to demonstrate your knowledge in the above subjects.

4 GCSE grades D and above (or equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh and Mathematics/Numeracy. Or a Level 1 Diploma in a related subject. 

A practical skills test will also be undertaken.
All applicants will need a positive attitude and suitability for the course will be assessed at interview and throughout the induction period. 

Information about your kit and uniform costs will be given upon enrolment.

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25.00 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationery, and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
