Computing is an incredibly fascinating and dynamic field. It’s a world where you get to explore the power of technology and its impact on our lives.
This course is a practical, vocational course, completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. The course is made up of a number of units where you study core and specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study a particular area in more depth. The course is being offered on a full-time basis.

What you will learn
This course is equivalent to four GCSEs at grades A* - E.
It provides a good progression route to more advanced qualifications such as a BTEC level three national qualifications.
The course motivates learners via applied learning and assessment.
It is assessed internally through coursework.
It provides education and training for employees working in ICT related occupations.
The course consists of the following 6 units:
- Unit 1 The Online World,
- Unit 2 Technology Systems,
- Unit 3 A Digital Portfolio,
- Unit 4 Creating a Digital Animation,
- Unit 6 Creating Digital Graphics,
- Unit 9 Spreadsheet Development,
- Unit 10 Database Development,
- Unit 11 Computer Networks
- Unit 13 Website Development,
- Unit 17 Multimedia Products Development
- Unit 20 Building a Personal Computer
- Students also study Essential Skills.
With further training or study, students can enter careers such as: end user support technician and trainee IT support officer / technician.
The course is also a good grounding to progress onto advanced courses such as the BTEC level 3 Diploma in IT or similar.
Unit 1 and Unit 2 are electronically externally examined. All other units are assessed by coursework and an overall grade is awarded.
This qualification is available to be assessed through the medium of English only.
4 GCSEs A-D grade with at least 2 Cs
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
