Build your future in construction with this Foundation Apprenticeship in Bricklaying. Designed for you as you start your career in the trade, this programme helps you develop practical skills, technical knowledge, and workplace experience. You will blend on-site learning with college-based training to master setting out, laying brick and blockwork, interpreting drawings, and working safely and productively to industry standards. 

The programme also develops knowledge of sustainable construction practices and workplace responsibilities in Wales.Delivered in partnership with employers, this apprenticeship prepares you to become a competent, confident, and job-ready bricklayer with skills valued across the construction industry.

What you will learn

You will gain hands-on experience in real work environments while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. You will develop practical bricklaying skills alongside health and safety, planning and reviewing your work, sustainable construction practices, and core occupational knowledge. You will also build essential workplace skills, including communication, problem-solving, and digital skills. Employers benefit from developing skilled staff trained to recognised industry standards. 

You will engage in practical and knowledge-based learning, covering workplace practices in Wales, health and safety, planning and reviewing your work, setting out, masonry construction, structural brickwork, and sustainable construction methods. You will develop occupational competence through on- and off-the-job training, supported by employer-led experience and college delivery. 

This apprenticeship can lead you to a career as a Bricklayer or Mason, or you can progress into supervisory roles as your experience grows. On completion, you may advance to a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Bricklaying or related higher-level construction pathways. It provides you with a strong route into long-term employment and career progression within the construction sector. 

You will be assessed through practical projects, knowledge assessments, workplace evidence, and ongoing reviews of your skills development. Your competence and technical understanding will be measured against industry standards.

You may need personal protective equipment and basic tools, depending on your employer’s arrangements. Any additional costs will be discussed at the start of the programme, with many employers supporting these requirements.
