What you will learn

You will gain hands-on experience in a live work environment while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. The programme covers scaffold structures, fall protection systems, planning and reviewing your work, health and safety, and sustainable construction practices.

You will also develop problem-solving, communication, and core workplace skills. Employers benefit from developing competent staff trained to recognised industry standards.

You will engage in practical and knowledge-based learning, covering construction workplace practices in Wales, planning and reviewing your work, scaffolding core knowledge, fall protection systems, independent and birdcage scaffolds, mobile and static scaffold towers, cantilever scaffolds, and pedestrian access lift or roof saddle systems. You will develop occupational competence through on- and off-the-job training, supported by employer-led experience and college delivery.

As a successful apprentice, you can progress into roles as a Scaffolder across the construction sector. Subject to industry requirements, you can also progress towards advanced scaffolding routes. The programme also supports your progression to higher-level apprenticeships and wider opportunities within the construction and access sector.

You will be assessed through an on-screen knowledge test, a practical project, and ongoing reviews of your workplace competence. Your technical understanding, practical performance, and occupational proficiency will be measured against industry standards.

You may need personal protective equipment, depending on your employer’s arrangements. Any additional costs will be discussed at the start of the programme, with many employers supporting these requirements.

You must be aged 16 or over and employed in a relevant scaffolding role. This programme is ideal for you if you are starting out in the trade and want to develop practical skills through employment. GCSEs in English, Mathematics, and a technical subject are desirable, alongside your interest in construction, safe working practices, and career progression in the sector.
