What you will learn

This apprenticeship combines advanced practical training with technical learning in a real work environment. You will develop skills in bespoke and routine joinery manufacture, setting out, machinery operation, planning and evaluating your work, and sustainable construction practices.

You will build precision craft skills, confidence, and occupational competence, while employers benefit from developing skilled staff trained to recognised industry standards.

As a successful apprentice, you can progress into roles in architectural joinery, bench joinery, specialist manufacturing, and supervisory positions. The programme also provides you with progression opportunities into higher-level apprenticeships and technical or management pathways within the construction and manufacturing sectors.

You will engage in practical and knowledge-based learning, covering construction practice in Wales, health and safety, planning and evaluating your work, routine and bespoke joinery manufacture, setting out, and the safe use of fixed and portable machinery. You will develop occupational competence through on- and off-the-job training, supported by employer-led experience and college delivery.

You will be assessed through on-screen tests, a practical project, professional discussion, and ongoing reviews of your workplace competence. Your technical knowledge, practical performance, and professional reflection will be measured against industry standards.

You may need personal protective equipment and basic hand tools, depending on your employer’s arrangements. Any additional costs will be discussed at the start of the programme, with many employers supporting these requirements.

You must be aged 16 or over and employed in a relevant joinery role. This programme is designed for you if you are looking to develop advanced technical and craft skills within the trade.

You should hold a minimum of GCSE Grade D (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics, and one technical subject, alongside a strong interest in joinery and career progression within the construction sector.
